This is the traditional recipe for American pancakes, rich, easy, and ready in a few minutes. American pancakes are sometimes also called hotcakes, flapjacks, or griddle cakes. It is served mostly at breakfast, in a stack of three or two, and topped with artificial or real maple syrup. You can also serve this dish with other items like sausage, eggs, toast, or bacon.

Ingredients for 8 small pancakes:

– 100 gr. Of flour

– A pinch of salt

– 1 spoon of sugar

– A teaspoon of yeast

– Vanilla powder

– 1 egg

– 1/2 glass (of the water ones) of milk

– 1 teaspoon of butter


– We mix all the ingredients in the blender glass. We beat it until it is a very tight paste.

– We put butter in a pan of about 10 cm. in diameter and add a few tablespoons of pasta to cover the bottom well. They should not be too thin because they look like crepes, they should be 1/2 cm. thick.

– Then, brown 2 to 3 min. on the one hand and we turn around. The fire should not be very high so that they are made equally and not burned.

– We reserve the pancakes in the heat (in the oven) and serve hot with whipped cream and caramel, syrup, or hot chocolate. We can also simply spread butter (when hot) and jam.

– For American breakfasts, they are served with crispy bacon and eggs, which contrast beautifully with the slight sweetness of the pancakes.

Tips and Comments:

– A variant that we love is to curdle the pancakes on raisins sautéed with butter and sugar.

– You can flavor the pancakes by adding a little cinnamon or a couple of tablespoons of yogurt of your favorite flavor to the dough.
